Ready-to-eat meal delivery company Factor Meals recently opened a 50,000-square-foot operation in Calgary that will expand its western Canadian footprint.

The new kitchen facility, which is already operating, is expected to create new local jobs, the company said in a press release.

“With 400 new roles, this facility allows us to work closely with local suppliers while delivering fresh meals directly to customers’ doorsteps across Western Canada,” Kevin Marban, general manager of Factor Meals said in the release.

Factor Meals is a meal delivery service with weekly rotating menus that are chef-prepared and dietitian-approved. Every meal is made from scratch and the company currently delivers to residents in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces, with plans to expand to B.C. and Saskatchewan in the fall.

Government money helps company build facility

The launch was supported by $3.6 million in provincial and federal funding, including $2.3 million from an Alberta Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit and $1.3 million from a Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership grant, according to the company.

“Activating our Calgary kitchen is a critical piece of the puzzle for Factor Meals in Canada. This facility positions us to achieve national service in the coming months, bringing fresh, nutritious, and convenient meals to millions of new households across the Western provinces,” Ian Brooks, chief executive officer of HelloFresh Canada, the parent company of Factor Meals, said.

The Calgary expansion now allows Factor Meals to scale its meal deliveries from coast to coast.

The facility operates as a large-scale commercial kitchen and production site designed to prepare meals fresh daily. Its infrastructure includes advanced industrial ovens, grills, braisers and blast-chilling capabilities.

The site also features extensive commercial-scale warehouse space with dedicated receiving docks for fresh-cut produce and proteins. The operation utilizes multiple temperature-controlled zones and ambient storage to maintain strict cold-chain integrity, Factor Meals said.

Invest Alberta and Calgary Economic Development helped bring this investment to life by providing Factor Meals with access to local supply chains, skilled talent and government resources critical to establishing and scaling operations in the Calgary region.

“Calgarians will benefit directly from this investment as Factor Meals expands in our city, creating hundreds of jobs and strengthening our local economy,” Calgary Mayor Farkas said.

HelloFresh, which is headquartered in Berlin and was founded in 2011, acquired Aurora, Ill.-based Factor75, Inc. in 2020. It was founded in 2013. It recently paid US$7.5 million in California for deceptive practices around customer opt-outs.

In 2025, the company reported more than $11 billion in revenue.
